Cleonie White, Ph.D.
Dr. Cleonie White is a New York State licensed clinical psychologist with a doctorate in psychology from New York University and a post-doctoral certificate in psychoanalysis from the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. She works with adults, adolescents, and with couples seeking clarity regarding their relationships. Psychoanalysis/ psychotherapy is best understood as a psychological journey that brings participants into a dynamic process of reflection and self discovery. Patients frequently seek psychotherapy at those moments in their lives when their usual methods of negotiating problems in living become less effective. Her patients often describe feelings of anxiety and depression and report a sense of alienation as they struggle to negotiate the challenges with which they are confronted daily. They feel stuck in old, repetitive patterns; and they seek, in the therapeutic relationship, a safe enough experience that affords open exploration of social and emotional obstacles in their efforts to function as full participants in the world.
Dr. White fully appreciates her patients’ expressed longings to experience a sense of wholeness, as they struggle to negotiate their world of work and interpersonal relationships. She works from the position that all patients are possessed of a creative potential with which to assess, envision, and shape their lives in a manner that is of their own making - one that reflects their own strengths and capacities. To this end, she is an active participant with her patients in the therapeutic endeavor, working toward enhancing their sense of personal authority in effecting change and psychological growth.
